WORKING in the WAITING

What are you CALLED to do? At the age of 14, the Lord spoke to me and I knew right there and then that He has made me, created me for a unique purpose. Furthermore I realized that He has equipped me with a gift set and an anointing to be used for His kingdom and His glory alone; I am called to be a Worship Leader. I’ve been seeking, working, training, enjoying and growing this gift of worship for over 10 years now.

This past weekend I was invited to lead worship at a wonderful Youth Weekend, UnderCurrent in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland. The weekend was so inspiring and God – filled (especially for me). Over 100 youth gathered, hungry to receive more of God and to uplift and glorify the name of Jesus.
Melina & team leading at UnderCurrent Youth Weekend: Cornerbrook, Newfoundland

During the weekend, the guest speaker, Mike Miller challenged all of us with the idea that it is in the Waiting Time (whether for a new season, or a revelation of our calling) that we are to WORK rather than just sit and do nothing. He explained that, “When we are seeking or waiting on God for what’s next or simply asking for direction, we cannot just do nothing and then expect to be ready when we are called.” I couldn’t have agreed more. Pastor Mike used the illustration of David and Goliath; pointing out that if David never practiced his sling shot in his every day life, he wouldn’t have been ready and quite possibly not successful on the day he was called, and defeated the giant, Goliath. So why do we think that we should wait for an opportunity and then begin to work and prepare for it?

I look back at my own life and believe with all my heart that if it wasn’t for the many times that I would go to my bedroom and strum new chords on my guitar or try out new melodies on my keyboard; I wouldn’t have been willing to say YES to the opportunities when they finally did come. Furthermore, if it wasn’t for times of seeking God on my own, whether kneeling in worship in my room, singing praises while driving in my car, or writing songs that boast about His goodness; I wouldn’t have been able to TRUST that God indeed has a plan for me and for my life. I wouldn’t have believed that He wants to use my life to the fullest of its potential, to inspire and encourage others so that they too would put Christ first in their lives.

As I listened to Pastor Mike Miller speak about WORKING in the WAITING… I was inspired to dive deeper in prayer and work harder at refining my talents and gifts – so that I can be ready for WHAT IS YET TO COME.

I have seen God bless me too much already to stop now. This only leads me to anticipate that there is still so much more that He longs to do in my life and through it.

What about you? What dreams do you dream? What has the Lord spoken/ revealed to you? Have you ever gone to God and asked Him to show you His plan for your life? I challenge you to seek the GIFT–GIVER and He will direct the steps of your life.

Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

I dare you to be courageous and give it over to God, and while you wait on Him, WORK HARD (at whatever you do, as if working for the Lord and not for man – Colossians 3:23).

Melina, you are an incredible child of God. Your love for Him is evident in everything you do. You worship him in speech, in actions, in faith, in love, and in your life. I love to watch you worship, miss hearing you sing praises to Him. Much love. P. Lo
